Not everybody can work from home.

Full disclosure: [this is not my usual blog post. But I hope you find it useful.]

In this particular time, my thoughts are also with small businesses and hospitality-related businesses.

In the Seattle area, big companies have asked their employees to work from home. They also banned non-critical business travels.

After the rush for toilet paper and other items at grocery stores, more people are staying home and limit their travels.

And that’s a good thing to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

As a consequence, and for many of us, it’s not business as usual anymore.

Small businesses are and will be impacted. Especially those relying on foot traffic.

I heard people are delaying putting their house on the market, others don’t want to gather at social events, or don’t go to the restaurant, school trips are canceled, other schools are closing, some tradeshows in the US and Europe are being canceled or delayed as well.

The two networking groups I am a member of moved their meeting online. While not ideal, that’s still a good way to stay in touch and refer to each other.

Now is a good time to think about how we can help those businesses affected by low foot traffic.

For example, we can order food from local restaurants through ubereats or doordash, buy gift certificates from local shops, schedule one to one meetings at coffee shops.

As business owners we can promote these offers on social media or targeted ads and direct mail.

Many small businesses are a one-man/woman show.

Being quarantined or sick means no revenue for most of them. Now is a good time to check with your insurance company if you are covered against any business losses due to a communicable disease, such as COVID-19.

Contact your insurance agent or insurance company directly to find out if you already have this added coverage.

If you need financial aids either for your business or personal.

Here is the SBA website to understand what you are eligible for and apply for a loan online

Stay connected with your clients.

Another great way to maintain communication with your clients or prospect is to do it online. Zoom, Google hangout or Microsoft teams (free 6 months trial) are great and easy to use tools worth a try.

Finally, wash your hands and use a hand sanitizer. For you and your client. And that is, by the way, a great promotional item to have your brand on. Suppliers are bombarded with demand for these right now.

Update: hand sanitizer are in very high demand. And the minimum quantity order is changing daily. contact us for more information.

Be safe out there and keep in mind your small businesses when making a buying decision.
